Defining Moments that will Determine Your Success

Our lives, who we are and what becomes of us is often shaped by our experiences. The experiences that leave the deepest and most lasting impression are usually the ones that will define our lives. These defining moments are not bias or partial with only the positive or negative experiences. It adopts our assessment we make, when we qualify these experiences, and it will lend its weight and strength behind us (or inside of us), to affirm us and steer us towards our actions…good or bad.

One could even say that these sacrosanct experiences are the key ingredients that make up our principles and philosophy…our belief system.

How does the defining moment influence your success in a selling career?

We probably have witness how traumatic experiences can “damage” or affect the future of promising individuals. In the same vein, positive or positively accepted experiences can provide the trigger to propel you to sales greatness.

Many trainers, coaches and paradigm shifters have long developed successful individuals under “simulated” environment. The intention is to allow the willing individuals the opportunity to create defining moments while avoiding pitfalls. These closely monitored experiences will also allow the coaches/paradigm shifters to intervene early, should they noticed that the would-be sales champion have interpreted the experiences negatively and are setting themselves up for a fall.

Experiences in itself, is neither good or bad. They should be viewed purely as an exposure.  Once we start to accord meaning or value to it, it will either take on a positive or negative slant. Your interpretation to situation or exposure will therefore be crucial for your career success.

In the absence of trusted trainers or coaches, it would be important for you to orientate yourself not to be too quick to judge any experiences but keep all exposure neutral. Seek counsel with successful individuals who may offer their views on your situation/scenario. Generally, a well interpreted or well read situation is both uplifting and liberating. It is free from prejudices and blame, and it highlights your own misgiving and exudes an honest acceptance to rectifying it.

So, failure or success in the selling career may be “engineered” with the right defining moments and/or the right interpretation of experiences. However, the exact experiences or scenarios are impossible to replicate or engineer. With so many variable conditions (ie. Our family values, education, cultural & religious beliefs, background etc) in our lives, you can never be too sure what or how the situation will present itself. It therefore is necessary to keep an open mind to the situation and not making any personal assessment until you are certain. And it also helps to stay within the context of your chosen path. The constant activities in a focused selling environment will undoubtedly throw out plenty of opportunities to learn, develop and identify your defining moments for selling success.
